She sat on the hospital bed weak and pale her voice barely above a whisper when she said I didn’t think it would end like this I didn’t even know it could get this bad she was a young woman not more than twenty four not yet married but three months pregnant for a man she called her boyfriend a man she trusted with her body her future and what was supposed to be their child she told us everything when we asked what happened the pain was still fresh in her eyes even though her body was numb it all started on a Friday night she said around ten thirty in the evening he was getting dressed smelling of cologne and clean clothes his phone kept buzzing she was curious she asked him where are you going and he looked at her like she had no right to ask him anything I’m going to the club he said casually like it was no big deal and when she tried to question him further his voice changed he flared up and said what is your business are you my wife that moment something in her broke because this was the same man who told her he loved her the same man whose baby she was carrying she reminded him I am pregnant with your child hoping maybe it would bring him back to his senses maybe he had forgotten maybe stress had made him blind but no that only made him more angry she said that wasn’t the man she fell in love with she said the man she knew would never talk to her like that then the words turned into shouts and the shouts turned into a slap and then a punch and then a push she said she couldn’t even believe it at first she was in shock as he raised his hand again and again until she fell bleeding from places she didn’t understand crying out but too weak to stop him and then as she lay on the floor she looked at him one last time and said the blood of my unborn child shall be upon you the father he stood there frozen just for a second and then like nothing happened he picked up his keys and walked out to the same club he was heading to while she lay in pain neighbors heard the noise they came in they found her soaked in blood gasping for air they didn’t wait they carried her to the hospital the doctors said she could have died if they came even ten minutes later they said the baby’s life was already gone but something helped something she didn’t even expect technology the hospital had a new smart maternal emergency machine it scanned her in seconds ran through her vitals flagged the danger and guided the doctors on what to do they stopped the bleeding they stabilized her and even though her womb was now empty her life was saved and even after the surgery while she was recovering one of the nurses gave her a small tablet and said you don’t have to talk if you’re not ready but there’s something that can help it was a chatbot app for mental health support where she could talk without fear where she could vent and cry and scream in peace she said it helped her more than she expected slowly she began to heal slowly she started writing she started sharing her story and using free writing tools she found online she created a blog a space where other women could write too anonymously if they wanted where women could speak their truth without shame she called it Value Yourself because that’s what she had to do she had to learn to value herself like there was no one else on earth she had to learn that no one is coming to save her that the world is cold and selfish and sometimes even the one you love will leave you to die but she is still here alive breathing wiser and stronger she said this time she would not ignore the signs she would not lower her standards she would not allow love to blind her again because the most painful thing isn’t the slap it’s the fact that she thought he loved her and still he left her there bleeding like she was nothing but now she knows better now she values herself again and again and again
